The VFW values constructive community service that benefits education, the environment, health sciences and civic projects.
The VFW provides its members with opportunities to volunteer in their communities and give back to our troops and their families. For this reason, the VFW has community partnerships with other distinguished service organizations such as the National Rifle Association, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, International Association of Firefighters and the Salvation Army.
Each year VFW and VFW Auxiliary members donate more than 13 million volunteer hours and $50 million to community service projects through these and other activities:
- mentoring youth groups
- helping in community food kitchens
- volunteering in blood drives
- visiting hospitalized veterans
- helping veterans file compensation claims
